Burned Blower Motor Regulator Connector, but still working.

Burned Blower Motor Regulator Connector, but still working

So I kept hearing this strange noise coming from the Blower Motor, and it seemed to stop when I turned the air off in my car, and I have heard stories of the Blower Motor being the cause of this noise, so I decided to go in there to see what the problem was.

I removed the Blower, not that difficult, unfortunately a lot of screws, about 10, then removed the glove box, and the bottom panel, then, just rotate the "Blower" to the right, after you undo the plastic "lock".
Plastic lock

Pull down on the plastic lock, I used a screwdriver, and then rotate blower to the right.  Then the motor comes out, unplug the cables from the fan before you rotate blower motor.

This is what I found:

Fan Blower Regulator
Bad Fan, Good Regulator? The fan motor was very hard to rotate and I could tell it was ready to go bad, I will replace it soon.  Unfortunately not only will I have to replace the Blower Fan, I will also have to replace the Blower Regulator too, as you can see it's has been overheating.  It's just a mater of time before it goes bad.  The regulator alone is like $90 dollars.  Here is a link to Amazon if you are interested:

Amazon link below...

Bad Fan:  I believe the culprit of the Regulator being burned is probably the fan because if the fan is struggling to rotate it's probably pulling more Amps, to try to rotate, which in turn will draw more power, which will create more heat.

Thanks to : Leo Perez, for the good video.

Let me know if you are going through the same thing, I am curious to know how many people have gone through this...  Thanks,

Rough start BMW 330i 2006, when low on oil

Rough start BMW 330i 2006, when "low" on oil

Oil Level Low (3 bars is low)
In the past week I've noticed something different when I start my car, it start up a little rough.  Because I drive the car every day, I notice very subtle changes to my car.  In the past I got worried, I wondered if it was something bad, perhaps something wrong with the spark plugs, or coils, etc.   It's very disconcerting because, it's very noticeable, as you drive away from a stop the car tends to feel heavy.  When this happened for the first time, I have to admit I got worried.  Fortunately this problem does have a very easy solution, the solution is to add more oil.

5W-30
This is something that i've noticed for a few years.  If I am just about due for an oil change and my oil is "low", my car start rough, it doesn't seem to have the same amount of power as it did when the oil was new and topped off.

BMW 330i 2006
As I drive my car month end month out, I tend to forget when it's time to change the oil.  I know it happens to me all the time, I tend to wait for the car to tell me it's time for an oil change. I know I am not suppose to wait, but if you have life, you will forget.

This is the first time I've had to add oil to my engine this year and in this particular case I ended up adding 1 quart of oil to top it off.   I can definitely tell the difference.  I've always added 5W-30 Mobil 1 brand, and I've never had any problems.

Oil cap, top right. (cover removed)

Side note: On the intro picture above there are 3 bars (green bars), this is LOW oil level in my opinion, if you add a bit more oil to the engine the 3 bars turn to 4, which is better.  I've found that 4 bars is better for optimum power output for the engine, 3 bars is okay, but low.  Note that on the picture it states that the Oil Level is O.K.  it's definitely okay, but not for optimum power.  Also note that adding more oil at this point is actually bad, to be sure add a bit more oil and check level, keep doing this until you reach the 4 bars.

The last thing I wanted to say is that if you own a 2006 BMW 330i, you know about oil leaks, around the oil filter case, and around the valve cover manifold, if you have oil leaks there, oil will be low after a few months because oil is always coming out of these areas, although you should fix these problems because they can lead to more serious problems, if you keep driving the car to and from work for example, the oil level will drop little by little, so definitely keep an eye the oil level once every couple of months, and if you are low, top it off.

I hope this was helpful to you

How to read codes in your E90, bluetooth OBDII reader

How to read codes in your E90
bluetooth reader/scanner, BMW 330i 2006, E90

I've used this little OBDII sensor so many times, that it already paid for itself.  It was not very expensive to begin with, only $20 dollars US.  It has been a lifesaver many times over.  I have diagnosed many problems in my E90.   The product is a Bluetooth OBDII  adaptor.  The one I got was from Amazon, it's from a company called XiTech, the model is XR7.

Torque APP, Android
You have to download a program called "Torque" link to download from Google Play Store to run on your Android phone.  The app is free but if you pay for the app you get all sorts extra goodies.  When the XR7 is paired with your phone's App it can give you a ton of information in real time. The best part of course is that it can read codes.  But it can tell you all sorts of information like: Revs, speed, Throttle, Coolant temp, Acceleration, etc...  If you mount it on your dashboard it can give you all sorts of useful information.

You only have to pair it with your phone one time, and after that you only have to connect the adaptor to your car and then run the app.

To Pair:  Plug in the XR7 into your cars OBDII, then Turn on Bluetooth on your Phone and search for the device on your phone, mine comes up as CBT, select it to pair with phone, you may need to enter a 4 digit code, mine was included in the paperwork I got with the device, usually it's 0000 or 1234, then run the Torque App.  Wait for the device to link with the bluetooth and you are ready to read the codes or run the Real Time Information.

OBDII Back of Device
The first problem I diagnosed was a stuck vanos.   But I've diagnosed other problem with a spark plug coil, timing sensors, etc..

When I get the dreaded Check Engine Light in my car, the first thing I do is I plug in the XR7 and I run the app, with in seconds I know what is wrong with my E90.

If you go to the Dealer to get an Engine check light diagnosed, it will run you $150 dollars US.  Why spend that much money when you can diagnose the problem yourself.

A must have for any BMW E90 owner.

Is there a Cricket in my engine bay! squeaky pulley

Is there a Cricket in my engine bay!
BMW 330i 2006 E90, Squeaky pulley
After Driving my car for a few years, I started noticing a cricket noise every once in a while, I figured it came from the belt, but I couldn't figure out where exactly, I think I figured it out, I think I found the cricket.

The noise comes from this pulley in the middle of the picture.
Cricket Noise comes from Belt Pulley
If you look closely you can see the pulley is off to the side a bit.  The belt will come off at some point, I need to replace it before this happens.
Stay tuned for an update to this post.

Chime speaker broken, (Fix)

Chime Speaker Broken (Fix)

After driving my car for a few years I noticed that the chime speaker sounds bad.  I found that super glue will do the trick, it's fast and easy, and I rather fix it, better than buying a new speaker, which is expensive I might add.

Center Logic 7 speaker, ( Chime Speaker )
I found that the problem is that the cone separates from the ring.

Super Glue to the rescue, simply apply a small amount of glue all the way around, let it dry under the sun for about 30 minutes, and that's it.  The speaker is working normal again.
You can see the glue want to drip, just add a little bit.

I am no expert, I just figured why not fix it, save some money.

This is the super glue I used, in case you are wondering:
Loctite Super Glue, I got it at Walmart.
More pictures of the speaker in case you were wondering what it looked like:

After I removed the trim.
Tip to remove the trim:  Press with your finger in the very front(drive side) of the trim, press firmly until you see the edge of the trim, and then using a small flat screw drive slowly work your way around the trim, it just snaps off.  Take your time, I broke mine rushing, just take your time, it snaps off.

Thanks, I hope this helps you.

VANOS service, with instructions, pictures and Video

Vanos Routine Maintenance
Code P0012
How and when to do Vanos Maintenance.  I typically perform this routine maintenance every 6 months.  Why? because sometimes little particles get stuck in the Vanos, and they prevent the Vanos from moving in or out freely.  This sometimes gives you a code of  P0012 or P1519. I have found that simply cleaning the Vanos will fix this code, and or prevents it.  Model year 2006 E90 BMW 330i,

If you don't change the oil regularly on the car, little particles break off the oil filter, and they get stuck on the solenoid, thus giving you the "malfunctioning" Vanos, but really all you need is to clean it.  If you ever changed the oil filter on a BMW you know that sometimes the oil filter deteriorates under normal use and small particles separate from the oil filter, I believe it's the glue that holds the filter to the plastic housing... just my opinion, but I personally believe this is what makes the vanos fail, and of course "old" oil or a "foreign" particle will do the same.

I was told by a BMW service guy, that some BMW owners, prefer to change the oil on their cars every 6,000 miles or 6 months instead of the 12-17,000 miles recommended by the in car computer, because they want to maintain their engine in top shape.  I personally prefer doing it every 6,000 miles to prevent the Vanos from sticking.  I am no expert, just my personal preference, I've changed the oil in my car before, after only 6,000 miles it looks pretty bad, so I speak from personal experience.

How to clean it:
Vanos Cleaning using Air gun

 How to remove the Vanos:

Note: There are 2 Vanos, side by side, one unplugged here. I removed the bolt, located in the top right of the picture.

I was told that both Vanos are exactly the same, I like to keep them in the same location when I remove them to do maintenance, just to be safe.

As you begin to pull the vanos out it will have some resistance, pull it straight out.  You may need a small flat screw driver to start it.

Don't forget the O-Ring it gets stuck inside sometimes

After Vanos removed, picture of inside the cylinder.

Note the Plastic O-Ring and the Hard Plastic Ring.

Note: Caution: A Small amount of silicone introduced into VANOS actuator or solenoid can set faults.

Not the exact one as my car, but you get the idea.

Special thanks to Bently Publishers, for the pictures.

I hope this helps someone, good luck.

Side note: always change the oil filter with Original BMW oil filter, they do hold up better under normal use, and always use Synthetic oil.
